DUMBO Library

The library is a community retreat dedicated to the curation and distillation of knowledge in all its forms. It is a building that must function on multiple levels and cater to a wide range of programmatic requirements. It is simultaneously private, public, dense and open in variety of combinations. It must also remain a flexible vessel which can be populated with the appropriate resources of the time.

Multiple architectural systems are employed through the design of the library to create the aforementioned spectrum of programmatic spaces. Structure morphs from dense and ordered to open and loose. Intersecting the structure is a continuous floor plate that enables uninhibited movement between the multiple zones while simultaneously creating a third space of inhabitable circulation in the form of oversized stairs. Finally, a glass enclosure strategically pushes in to the building footprint creating exterior spaces responding to views and adjacencies of the site.
