The Canopy City - In response to the growing population, the built environment will gain approximately 13,000 buildings a day. The inherent perception of such radical growth suggests a need for urban sprawl. However, if we can develop a new form of infrastructure which enables the further densification of the urban landscape, the assumed environmental impacts can be mitigated. This system proposes a linear process to allow for the construction of a mass-timber mixed-use landscape on top of the city below. Through strategic utilization of structural steel, concrete, renewable energy and 3d technology a new ground plane is created enabling the organic development of the city canopy.
